Hike – Rhine River Panorama from Geisenheim to Rüdesheim – Optional Camping
Rhein River Panorama
This time it is my pleasure to invite you to a hike with panoramic views over the Rhine river passing by monuments, valleys, castles, monasteries and finally taking the funicular to one of the most beautiful towns at the river shore: Rüdesheim
This is an event with optional camping. We would arrive Friday evening at the camping site, stay for 2 nights. On Saturday morning we will meet the ones who would only like to participate in the hike. After the hike we will go back to the camping site and sleep another night.
Length: 16,9 km, moderate level
Total ascent: 359 m
Total descent: 465 m
5 euros for the funicular into Rüdesheim.
We will meet at Rüdesheim Bahnhof and take the train to Geisenheim Bahnhof so the cars will be at the point of arrival. From there we will walk to Rüdesheim via Johannisberg passing by all the sights mentioned above. In Rüdesheim at the Germania monument we will take the funicular into Rüdesheim where we will look for a nice place to have a drink and eat. There are two options for people arriving by car.
For more information:
When and how to get there:
You can reach Rüdesheim by public transport which is a 2,5 hours trip, rather expensive and usually you need to swap trains 2 or 3 times.
As always I encourage carpooling and would like to ask the ones who will drive to comment if you can take people along and how many seats you offer. If you are looking for a seat please comment as well. Your RSVP is only valid if you have commented on how you will get there!!! It is no problem if you prefer to go alone in order to keep your options open. Distance from Heidelberg is 120 km and travelling time 1,5 hours.
When and where to meet:
Meeting point is Rüdesheim Bahnhof at 10:45. We will take the train at 10:53 to Geisenheim so be on time.
What to bring:
• A smile
• Sporty outfit adjusted to weather conditions (umbrella and / or rain coat if weather is unstable)
• Hiking boots or shoes with good traction for longer distances
• Food and water for the time of the hike
